Yamaha has introduced a special celebratory edition of the R3 for select international markets, marking the brand’s 70th anniversary. This edition carries a fresh visual upgrade while keeping all mechanical elements identical to the standard model. Among the four supersport models showcased globally, the R3 is the only one currently available in India.
Design & Styling
The Yamaha R3 70th Anniversary Edition comes with an eye-catching red and white livery that enhances its classic sportbike appeal. The fairing, fuel tank, and tail section receive this dual-tone finish, giving the motorcycle a premium and distinctive presence.
The side panels stand out with red-colored 3D-style tiles that add depth to the graphics. Black accents on the front fascia and the lower portion of the side fairing complete the look. The ‘R3’ and Yamaha branding are prominently placed above the headlamp and on the fuel tank, highlighting the model’s celebratory identity. Apart from this refreshed styling, the bike remains unchanged in all other aspects.
Engine & Performance
The motorcycle is powered by a smooth and responsive 321cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that delivers 40.4 bhp and 29.4 Nm. Built on a diamond-type frame, it runs on 17-inch alloy wheels and features upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by a single disc at both ends with ABS, ensuring stable stopping performance.
The latest version also includes features like a TFT instrument screen and an assist-and-slipper clutch, contributing to a modern riding experience.
Market Availability in India
In India, the older-generation Yamaha R3 is priced at ₹3.39 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the new 70th Anniversary Edition is unlikely to be launched here due to the lukewarm response the model received earlier, mainly because of its premium pricing.
Global 70th Anniversary Lineup
Yamaha has applied the anniversary livery to four models—R125, R3, R7, and R9. These special editions will be available internationally throughout 2026. Although the R3 continues to be the only model sold in India, low demand makes its anniversary edition launch doubtful.
Additional Details
The design follows the same body structure as before, now finished in the signature red-white paint theme across the fairings, tank, and tail section. The 3D graphics on the side fairings and the bold ‘R3’ and ‘YAMAHA’ markings further highlight the edition’s exclusivity.
Mechanically, the motorcycle retains the same 321cc twin-cylinder engine producing 42 PS and 29.4 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It continues to ride on 17-inch wheels, features upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, and comes equipped with a slipper clutch and a digital TFT display.
Competition in India
The Yamaha R3 currently rivals models such as the KTM RC 390, TVS Apache RR 310, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Aprilia RS 457, and Kawasaki Ninja 500.
